Exercising Patience for Enhanced Patient Experiences

virtual patient monitoring from command center

At an early age, we learn the significance of patience, whether it's enduring long road trips or waiting in line for the coveted ice cream truck. As adults, we encounter new situations that put our patience to the test.

This is particularly true working in healthcare.

While our dedicated Patient Safety Observers operate remotely from a command center, they engage in numerous face-to-face interactions during their 12-hour shifts with patients. The patients we monitor through virtual patient monitoring service often belong to high-risk populations, necessitating extensive interaction to alleviate the strain on already overwhelmed nursing teams.

Proudly introducing Krystal Slade, a highly experienced Patient Safety Observer with a strong background in mental health care. Through her combined experience, Krystal has honed an extraordinary ability to exercise patience with even the most challenging patients.

Quick Action that Led to Impactful Outcome

Here’s some background: one of our long-term patients enrolled in the program posed a challenge due to a traumatic brain injury sustained in a car accident several months prior. According the brainline.org, individuals with traumatic brain injuries may require several months of hospitalization to safely transition to a rehabilitation facility. Krystal often willingly assumed responsibility for this patient’s care or relieved her colleagues throughout the day (due to volume of interactions needed to ensure patient safety). She quickly discovered that ice-cream and Wheel of Fortune were effective distractions, a proactive approach to reorienting the individual in order to reduce impulsive activity.

Alleviating Strain on Nursing Staff

By skillfully managing the demanding workload of patients who require extensive virtual and physical assistance, Krystal made a tremendous impact. Krystal's exceptional patience not only benefited her colleagues but also contributed to the well-being of the nursing team caring for the individual.
