VirtuAlly: A Part of the Family

“I’ll be right back, Victoria, I'm going to run to the cafeteria and meet my daughter for breakfast.”

“Be right back” is a scary phrase when you’re in a hospital room. It means leaving behind your loved one and the comfort of being by their side.

No one understands this feeling more than Lara, the primary caretaker for her fall-risk husband. She developed a simple, though unsustainable, solution to combat this anxiety:  if she never left his side, she wouldn’t have to worry about his safety. That said, no one can stay alert 24/7, and some hospitals can’t allow loved ones to stay overnight - especially through COVID.

During a week-long stay, the hospital recommended the support of VirtuAlly’s telemonitoring system to Lara and her husband. His stability – and therefore, his safety – had been on the decline as of late, and this lack of security was taking a toll on both him and Lara. Even still, she was afraid to sacrifice caring for her husband.

One of our virtual monitoring technicians, Victoria, quickly put Lara at ease and showed her that taking time to care for herself didn’t mean she was selfish. Almost instantly, Victoria became an extension of the family through her round the clock care and compassion. For the first time, Lara was able to sleep comfortably in her own bed, knowing someone was watching over and caring for her husband 24/7 - even when she wasn’t able to be by his side.

Through many shifts, a solid, trusting relationship was formed, giving Lara’s “be right back” a whole new meaning.  With Victoria and VirtuAlly by their side, “be right back” simply became a changing of the guards so that Lara could come back the next day ready to bring her best to her husband – day in and day out.
